In photography there are many subcategories and many more types/genres. These are some of the many types:

Nature photography is a wide range of photography taken outdoors and displays natural elements such as landscapes, wildlife, plants, and close-ups of natural scenes and textures.

Wildlife photography is taking pictures of animals in their natural habitat. It is a challenging style of photography as the photographer should have good field craft skills which includes camouflage and navigation.

Travel photography is about the places around the world. People who love to travel can become amazing travelling photographers. It documents an areas's landscape, people, cultures, customs and history. Travel photography dates all the way back from the 1850's

Underwater photography:
Underwater photography is pretty much self explanatory, photos taken underwater. Its is usually done while scuba diving. It can be done while diving while diving on surface supply, snorkeling, swimming, from a underwater vehicle or cameras lowered into the water from the surface. It is also categorised as a method for recording data and as an art form.

Timelapse photography:
Timelapse photography is made up of taking pictures over a time span. For example, an image might be captured once every second then played back in a sequence at 30 frames (pictures) per second. The result is an apparent 30 times speed increase. It is considered the opposite of high speed and slow motion photography.

High speed photography:
High speed photography is the science of taking pictures of very quick happening. It is hard only because the photographer has to get the right "moment" . A very fast camera shutter is needed for taking photos like these.

Abstract photography:
Abstract photography captures a sense of form, colour, pattern and curves than it does on details. The viewer of the phto is meant to enjoy the "feel" of how it looks. In other words it would be "aesthetically pleasing"

Night photography refers to photographs taken outdoors between dusk (after sunset) and dawn (before sunrise).

Auroras (the northern or southern lights)
